About Hang Up First
A calm, independent page for the middle of a scam attempt.
Purpose
Hang Up First exists for one moment: when someone is on a call, text, or chat that feels wrong, right now. The goal is simple. Help that person stop, hang up, and call back using a number they find themselves, before money moves or a code is shared.
Who it is for
Anyone who is worried they are being scammed, or who has already sent money or shared information and needs calm next steps. It is also written for family members, caregivers, and friends who want plain, sourced guidance to share with someone else.
Hard limits
This site has firm boundaries, stated plainly:
- We are not your bank.
- We are not law enforcement.
- We are not a law firm.
- We cannot recover your money.
- We do not want your account numbers, passwords, codes, Social Security number, or personal scam details. There is no form on this site, and nothing you type here is sent anywhere.
If you are in immediate danger
Contact emergency services (911).
How to trust this site
Scammers sometimes copy real websites or claim to represent them. Here is how to know what is real:
- Hang Up First is a free, read-only website. We will never call, text, or email you.
- We will never ask you for money, gift cards, codes, passwords, or account details.
- We will never give you a phone number to call for "help" or "support." The only phone number to trust is one you look up yourself — on your bank card, a bill, or an official website you type in.
- A real helper will not stay on the phone with you while you read a safety website. If someone is on the line telling you what to do, hang up.
- If a website or caller claims to be Hang Up First and shows a support number or asks you for anything, it is fake.
